Steven has tried and appeared in cases throughout state and federal courts as well as in administrative settings, including Ohio’s Board of Tax Appeals. He represents individuals, businesses and municipalities in disputes involving insurance coverage, financial and business matters, as well as personal injury and disability claims.
When Skill Matters
- Represents creditors in bankruptcy courts to resolve financial disputes, and in recovery of assets
- Represented clients involving long-term disability benefits, including claims under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (ERISA)
- Successfully argued before the Ohio Supreme Court:
- Sherwin-Williams Co. v. Dayton Freight Lines, Inc. involving political subdivision immunity
- Cincinnati Ins. Co. v. Anders, determining an insurer’s duty to provide coverage under a homeowner’s policy involving sale of residence and alleged failure to disclose property damage
- The State Ex Rel. Cornerstone Developers, Ltd. v. Greene Cty. Bd. of Elections, finding that R.C. 5705.03(B)(3) requires a governmental entity to engage in a two-step resolution process in order to place a levy on a ballot
- Johnson v. Montgomery, holding that Ohio’s Dram Shop Act provides the sole basis for liquor permit holder liability for the off-premises actions of intoxicated individual
